Why?

Why so much pain and violence? Families too scared to take their injured children to hospital, people dying and their lives being destroyed by war. Praying for Syria, praying that God will bring peace and reconciliation, that people will turn back to Him and forgive each other, that He will dry up every tear and bring healing...

End of the week

I can't believe tomorrow is my last day of training..time passed so quickly!!
On Monday I'll start working by myself and I'll be driving to my workplace by myself as well - two big and quite scary challenges. But for today...I'm just grateful for this evening at home watching a very funny film with house mates and simply resting after a long day and lots of rain.

ps. This was the film choice - lots of laughing! ahah

Wellie Wanging

Today I learned that in Britain there is a sport called Wellie Wanging. Basically you just have to throw your boots as far as possible.
There are even a World Association Wellie Wanging  and techniques for a good welly wanging! That's hilarious! I almost cried with so much laugh trying to  image people throwing boots just for fun. I really need to buy some Wellies ( it's a do!) and play this game! :)

Breakfast time

No cooking, no more studying and medicines for today. I will call it a Cereal evening!

I usually have Malt Wheats from Tesco in the morning because they are nice and tasty ( and quick to be eaten...toasts take too long at 6am). 

For dinner today I had a combination of Malt Wheats and Muesli, just to be a bit different, and I found out that it is delicious. New recipe for early mornings and lazy evenings! Here at home there two different types of people Malt Wheats people and Muesli people. I might be starting a new group - the mueslimaltwheats!

I want to do

I've found these ideas on Pinterest and I really want to do something similar to decorate my room. Tomorrow is my day off  (yeah!) and I hope to have a look around on charity shops!

Up and downs

The last days have been full of up and downs. I feel frustrated about things I wanted to do better and without any mistakes. It's very hard when at work I can't fully understand the patients specially when they speak very fast and with a different accent. I feel very excited as well about new things I'm learning and every little step I'm taking forward. Today I did my first Medicine Use Review alone!! ( this is a service pharmacies offer to know how patients are getting on with their medicines and answer any queries they might have)
These feelings remind me again that the strength to go and to live and to work does not come from my own abilities but from the One that can make the work of my hands bear fruit like our back garden cherry is!
Yes, it looks like we're going to  have a harvest! :)

Today

Early mornings

I was already cycling to the train station by 6.10am today. Just wishing I could keep my eyes opened while my legs were moving! How painful such early morning are!

Hoje pelas 6h10 já estava eu na minha bicicleta em direcção à estação de comboio. Só desejava manter os olhos abertos enquanto as minhas pernas mexiam! Que dor ter que acordar tão cedo! 

Today gray day

It's raining and it's cold...very cold. I had forgotten the feeling of cycling with the rain against my face, my hands hurting with the cold and my feet completely wet. 

Oh well, I could keep complaining but these are just small details in life. After all if it didn't rain, this place wouldn't be so beautiful. 

This gray and cold day helped me to be thankful for the community God has brought me into back again, thankful for friends and people who care about me and are interested in my life. I am thankful for the smiles, hugs, words, holding a little baby, a warm and cosy sofa and a cup of tea in a place that's still so familiar...:) The Sun might not be shining, but these little things brought it into my day! 

Today was Jubilee Sunday - Queen Elizabeth II has been reigning for 60 years!

Here are some of her words that we also read at church today:

Por aqui chove e faz frio...muito frio. Já me tinha esquecido de como era andar de bicicleta com a chuva a bater-me na cara, as mãos a doer com frio e os pés completamente molhados. 

Bem, podia continuar a reclamar mas isto são só pequenos detalhes da vida. Afinal se não chovesse, este sítio não seria tão bonito! Por outro lado, este dia cizento e frio fez-me agradecer a Deus pela comunidade que tenho à minha volta, pelos amigos e pessoas que se interessam e preocupam comigo. Estou grata pelos sorrisos, abraços, segurar um bébé, f  palavras, um sofá quentinho e chá num lugar que não deixou de me ser familiar...:) O Sol pode não ter brilhado hoje, mas estas pequeninas coisas trouxeram-no ao  meu dia!

Hoje foi um domingo muito especial - a rainha completou 60 anos de reinado.  

some adventures and good things in the last days

the sun has been shining!
i've got lost in my way (I thought I knew this city very well but there are still many streets to explore)
afternoon tea today with a friend sitting on a mat outside in her garden
went to the job centre to get my NI number and it was very fast, no queues
being full of oil from my bike and mosquitoes after a long cycling ( not so good! )
visiting my 91 years old wee friend at the hospital and laughing with her - she's better and she has still her sense of humour!
ending the day with a lovely meal cooked by my housemates and finishing the evening with an enormous bonfire in our garden and eating marshmallows
having a nice shower after all the bike oil, mosquitoes and smoke from the bonfire!
it's good to be back and it's good to be on holidays, on Thursday hard work starts!!

tem sol tem estado a brilhar!
perdi-me no meu caminho ( pensava eu que conhecia a cidade muito bem, mas ainda há muitas ruas para explorar)
cházinho hoje à tarde com uma amiga no jardim dela!
fui ao Job centre para tratar do meu NI number e foi tudo muito rápido, sem filas
ficar cheia de óleo da corrente e de mosquitos depois de andar um bom bocado de bicicleta ( não tão bom!)
visitar a minha querida amiga de 91 anos e rirmos juntas - ela está melhor e não perdeu o seu sentido de humor!
acabar o dia com um jantar delicioso preparado pelos meus colegas de casa e acabar a noite a fazer uma fogueira enorme no nosso jardim e comer marshmallows
tomar um bom banho, depois de todo o óleo, mosquitos e fumo da fogueira!
é bom estar de volta e é bom estar de férias, na quinta-feira trabalho a sério começa!!

I see our beautiful back garden. I've finally arrived to Cambridge. I'm settling in my new house and getting to know my new housemates. Today it was such nice our weather and we went out to garden for dinner again.

Thankful for being back to this city I love and for friends, old and new ones :)

Da minha janela...eu vejo o nosso lindo jardim. Finalmente, cheguei a Cambridge. Estou a adpatar-me à minha nova casa e a conhecer os meus novos colegas de casa. Hoje esteve um tempo tão bom e acabámos por jantar novamente cá fora no jardim. 


Agradecida por estar de volta à cidade de que  tanto gosto e pelos amigos, os velhos e os novos :)

memórias

Este lugar traz-me tantas memórias da minha infância. Lembro-me quando ía visitar o meu tio e descíamos o vale. Ele contava-me histórias da infãncia dele e do meu pai, sempre cheias de aventuras no vale, com subidas às árvores e caminhos secretos. Lá em baixo passava o comboio! Lembro-me de estarmos perto da linha e ao aproximar-se o comboio, o meu pai acenar ao maquinista para que ele fizesse-se apitar o comboio! Não sei se ele apitou por causa do sinal do meu pai ou se o maquinista estava com medo que atravessássemos a linha, mas apitou!!

Muitos anos depois, este lugar parece ainda mais bonito. Gosto tanto das flores, as cores e o oceano que se confude com o céu. Da próxima vez vou pedir ao meu tio para descermos o vale novamente!

This place brings me so many memories from my childhood. I remember when I used to visit my uncle and we used to go for a walk in the valley. He used to tell me stories of my dad's and his own childhood, full of adventures in valley, climbing trees and finding secret paths. There is a railway down there. I remember that we were very close, the train was approaching and my dad waved the driver as asking him the train to whistle. I don't know if the driver did it because of my dad's wave or because he was afraid that we would cross the line, but the train whistled indeed!!

After many years. this place looks even more beautiful to me. I love the flowers, the colours and the ocean merging with the sky. Next time I'll ask my uncle to go down the valley again!

the story of Ian and Larissa

        Há uns dias atrás, vi este vídeo e li também o blog como se fosse um livro. Não consegui conter as lágrimas. Quero mesmo aprender amar mais como a Larissa e ser mais como o Ian que, mesmo no meio de terríveis dificuldades, diz "He [God] is awesome". Acima de tudo, a vida deles aponta-me para Deus e o poder do seu amor tão misterioso e tão certo. E estou tão agradecida por isso.

A few days ago I watched this video and I read the blog as it was a book. I couldn't hold my tears. I really want to learn how to love more like Larissa and to be more like Ian who in the middle of terrible difficulties is able to say "He [God] is awesome". Overall, their lives point me to God and the power of His love so mysterious and so certain. And I'm so thankful for this. 

sweet Saturday mornings

Just love Saturday mornings,specially when I'm in my hometown. Thankful for its quietness, for my family being around, for the birds singing and Caleb Murphy's songs! Looking forward to walking by the sea this afternoon if the rain doesn't come :) 

Cá em casa...

...às vezes acontece! "Estas meias são minhas?". "Falta-me uma meia!". "Vê bem dentro do cesto". "Ah. Finalmente encontrei! (semanas depois). Está comprovado que acontece não só numa casa onde existem crianças, mas também onde existem outras três...mais crescidas.
Vi esta fotografia no Pinterest e achei mesmo boa ideia fazer um cá para casa! Iria ajudar-nos com certeza e fazer-nos rir!

I'll be travelling very soon for good. I hate packing and this time it is even harder. Boxes and bags seem to be growing in my room while my wardrobe and drawers seem to be emptier. It's really hard to chose what to take with me...A good thing though is that I've found lots of things I thought were lost!

Vou viajar muito em breve apenas com um bilhete de ida. Detesto fazer malas e desta vez está a ser ainda mais difícil. Caixas e sacos parecem crescer no meu quarto enquanto que o roupeiro e as gavetas estão a ficar vazios.
